چکیده

Spatial data sets are analysed in many scientific disciplines. Kriging, i.e. minimum mean squared error linear prediction, is probably the most widely used method of spatial prediction. Computation time and memory requirement can be an obstacle for kriging for data sets with many observations. Calculations are accelerated and memory requirements decreased by using a Gaussian Markov random field on a lattice as an approximation of a Gaussian field. The algorithms are well suited also for nonlattice data when exploiting a bilinear interpolation at nonlattice locations. © 2007 Elsevier B.V. All rights reserved.

A multi-resolution Gaussian process model for the analysis of large spatial data sets

A multi-resolution basis is developed to predict two-dimensional spatial fields based on irregularly spaced observations. The basis functions at each level of resolution are constructed as radial basis functions using a Wendland compactly supported correlation function with the nodes arranged on a rectangular grid. The grid at each finer level increases by a factor of two and the basis function...

Wavelet Markov Models as Efficient Alternatives to Tapering and Convolution Fields

The Matérn covariance function is a popular choice for modeling dependence in spatial environmental data. Standard Matérn covariance models are, however, often computationally infeasible for large data sets. In this work, explicit computationally efficient wavelet Markov approximations of Gaussian Matérn fields are derived using Hilbert space approximations. Using a simulation-based study, the ...

Multi-fidelity modelling via recursive co-kriging and Gaussian-Markov random fields.

We propose a new framework for design under uncertainty based on stochastic computer simulations and multi-level recursive co-kriging. The proposed methodology simultaneously takes into account multi-fidelity in models, such as direct numerical simulations versus empirical formulae, as well as multi-fidelity in the probability space (e.g. sparse grids versus tensor product multi-element probabi...

IMAGE SEGMENTATION USING GAUSSIAN MIXTURE MODEL

Stochastic models such as mixture models, graphical models, Markov random fields and hidden Markov models have key role in probabilistic data analysis. In this paper, we have learned Gaussian mixture model to the pixels of an image. The parameters of the model have estimated by EM-algorithm.   In addition pixel labeling corresponded to each pixel of true image is made by Bayes rule. In fact, ...

Estimation of Regional Trends in Sulfur Dioxide over the Eastern United States

Emission reductions were mandated in the Clean Air Act Amendments of 1990 with the expectation of concomitant reductions in ambient concentrations of atmospherically-transported pollutants. To evaluate the effectiveness of the legislated emission reductions using monitoring data, this paper proposes a two-stage approach for the estimation of regional trends and their standard errors. In the fir...
